See, now I’ve opened the flood gates and I just can’t STOP drawing! Been doing it all week and I’m loving it. Experimenting with a few techniques and ideas, did a little bit of sketching for myself and my honey - our D&D characters (God, Brick, couldja get any nerdier? Hell yea!) and an abstract piece that I’m very happy with.

Discovered some new music, some new joys to serve as pass-times, and new ways to make life a little easier. I leave for my vacation here in under two weeks. Things are going well!

There we go! Productive I’d said I’d be, and here I’ve gone and done it. A few fun sketches, one for a friend of mine, and one even for my awesome sister who succeeded in getting me hooked on WoW again. I’m happy with how most of them turned out. Stretching out the humanoid-drawing muscle more, thankfully.

Happy father’s day to the dads out there, including mine - because he’s the best out there. Ever. I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better dad to see me through all my years of growing up. Thank you for bringing music and an appreciation for life into my upbringing - thank you for letting me hold your hand when we went to the store (even if all I could hold was your pinky, since my hands were so small back then), thank you for being so strong both during my accident and during your stay at the hospital - they were rough times, but your strength of will, courage, and love taught me a lot about how to get through life’s dungbu. You’re amazing, and I’m both grateful and lucky to have been your daughter. :)

Sheesh, it HAS been a whole month since I wrote last. That’s no good. Unfortunately, what with moving, settling, and working out kinks in life and how it’s managed, I’ve had very little time to churn out anything truly worthwhile artistically since I last stopped in.

I shall remedy that!

My day’s labors consisted of intellectually stimulating conversation, long hours of sniffing black ink, an evening of great food and drink, and even more pleasant company combined with a peppering of the fantastical.

Also, dwarves.

My one secret <3 in art. Hairy, angry, midgets with heavy pointy things and massive beards. Also known as dwarves, and in this case, one done in a near-Viking flavor. Enjoy!

Let’s talk inspiration. I get asked sometimes what inspires me to draw what I draw, and I never have a single answer for people. So, since I’m currently engaged in one of my major inspirations, I’m going to discuss it a little.

Loads of folks say that Music turns their crank, and I’m one of them. Lately, I’ve fallen back into listening to a genre I like to call ‘Operock’, which is to say, Operatic Rock, or in the case of the current band I’m grooving too, Operatic Metal. It’s a band that I had the opportunity to discover from a friend of my beloved, and I doubt I’ll ever stop being grateful that said friend furthered my musical education in such a way. The lead singer on his own would make me drool, but combine it with the rest of the bands’ intuitive and brilliant musicians and you’ve got one happy Bricky.

So who is this band? Kamelot. If you’ve never heard of them, you’re either just not into the genre, or you’ve been under a rock. Their first two albums emulated Goethe’s Faust, and the latest (and the one I’m currently listening to) is comprised of several unique and equally potent stories that are brought to life not only by the sonorous communion of the instruments struck in deadly precision, but also by the drool-worthy and fan-girl creating Siren’s call of the lead singer, Roy Khan.

Promotional shot of Kamelot, downloaded from the website, all rights reserved the band and site and yadda yadda, don\'t sue me. :)

Holy toledo, Batman! Hubba hubba!

But don’t just take my word for it, click the image and go check them out. Seriously. Quit reading this and CLICK DAMNIT!

Finally settled in, and I was able to find a decent place to put the scanner. Move went smoothly, and my creative juices are back in action.

Whew, now time to clean things!

Things are looking up! We got a call this evening with information that will make our move even more manageable. We have a washer and dryer waiting for us! That’ll make things awesome.

Also, most of our room (which was the Big Problem) is now a smaller, more handleable problem. Yay, progress!

This upcoming month is going to be a busy one in our lives. We’re going to be moving into a larger place over the course of the next 30 days, leaving our first apartment together. We’ve been in it for about two years now, and what with the recent demand in rent-increase (and this apartment is NOT worth the price they’re asking), we decided it was time to move. After all, if we’re going to be paying an awfully unreasonable price for a one bedroom, going up $50 and getting a second bedroom in a bigger, better place isn’t going to be a horrible stretch on our pocketbooks.

Not only that, but where we’re going will not require a pet deposit, so it’s all right that we have two cats. And it’s all right that we may get a dog a little while after we move in. I’m very excited. I’ve missed having a dog that I could go walking with. A friend of mine and I have decided that, once I get a dog, we’re going to be walkin’ buddies in the park, since she has a puppy she’d like to start taking, as well.

Work’s about the same. My poor fella managed to catch the rampant pink-eye that was floating about where we work and has spent the past day miserable. Looks like he’s feeling a little better today, at least.

As for art! Working on a few mental projects, as well as finishing a graduation announcement for someone I work with. Their child graduates this year, so she asked me to design the cover. :)

It’s snowing. Again. Time to go play.

As Promised!

quinnsketch.jpg

It began with the blue lines, like in the image above. Four and a half hours, many many colors, and lots of pencil shavings later…

To the picture’s new owner: I hope it brings you joy. :) I had a load of fun doing it, and it was a good stretch of the artistic muscle.

I’ve been saying for a while that I need to work more on backgrounds, and I think that doing things like this is going to be a good way to put my hand and mind together to make it do what it doesn’t believe it can. In art, backgrounds that seem to work and belong is one thing I still struggle with. So, like I said. This was a good stretch, and I’m tickled that it came out looking decent. And it’s gone to a good home, too! :)

Happy Easter, all. Lay off the jelly beans and chocolate bunnies.

So through the vast means of the ‘web I found a program called ‘SketchBook‘ which provides a nice big canvas for tablet sketching. I rather enjoyed the wide freedom and the nice out-of-the-way tool bar that the program has. I fiddled with it for about ten minutes before bed, and decided that it’d be a program to keep, if only for the fact that I get to be messy in a biiiiiig area.

Either very late tonight or tomorrow when I wake up, the finished version of the Pony Sketch from the previous post will go up. It’s not up yet because I’d like the recipient of it to see it first. :)

Have a safe weekend, all!
